Cessnock Leagues Club Rallies Community for Samaritans Christmas Appeal
Cessnock Leagues Club is once again calling on the local community to help spread Christmas cheer, partnering with Samaritans Information and Neighbourhood Centre for its annual Christmas Gift Appeal.
With the rising cost-of-living impacting families across the region, the need for support is expected to be stronger than ever.
Now in its fourth year of involvement, the Club’s partnership with Samaritans continues to play an important role in bringing joy and relief to families experiencing hardship. More than 70 children are already registered for support this festive season, with Samaritans anticipating an even greater demand in the weeks ahead.
Samaritans senior worker Denise Crossley says the generosity of the local community remains essential to the success of the appeal.
“Each Christmas, through the generosity of our local business and community, Samaritans is able to support families in our community who are doing it tough. This year we will rely even further on the generosity of the local community to provide gifts and food items,” says Denise.
Cessnock Hospitality Group Administration Supervisor Leanne Graves says the Club is deeply committed to helping ensure every child feels the magic of Christmas.
“We are proud to support the Samaritan gift appeal and help bring joy and hope to local families who are doing it tough during the festive season. We believe in the power of community and the importance of giving every child a reason to smile at Christmas,” says Leanne.
Donation bins are now in place at Cessnock Leagues Club, Vincent Street Kitchen & Bar and Paxton Bowling Club. Community members can pick up a gift tag from the Christmas tree, attach it to a new, unwrapped gift, and place it beneath the tree for collection.
Suitable donations include toys for children aged 0–12, books, sports equipment, beach towels, bags, and A$20 gift cards. Toys must be new, in their box and without batteries. Donations will be accepted until Tuesday, 9 December 2025.
Cessnock Leagues Club and Samaritans are encouraging the community to give what they can and help ensure no child misses out this Christmas.
