Dedicated Guildford Leagues Employee Marks 50 Years
Dedicated Guildford Leagues Club employee Mary Ingram has notched up an incredible 50 years of dedicated service.
Mary commenced employed at the Club in October 1975 and for many years juggled two jobs while raising a family — a true testament to her dedication and resilience.
Although Guildford Leagues Club was her second job, Mary treated it not merely as a workplace, but as a community. Over the years, she built lasting friendships and created a genuine sense of belonging for people from all walks of life and nationalities.
Mary has mentored countless new staff members, taking them under her wing and leading by example. It didn’t take long for anyone to understand why both patrons and staff hold her in such high regard. Members often come into the Club just to chat with Mary — a reflection of how much she truly cares for everyone she meets.
About 30 years ago, during a harrowing armed holdup while on duty, Mary’s courage and concern for her colleagues’ safety under extreme duress — even while locked in the safe — was recognised and deeply respected.
Throughout her many years of service, Mary has witnessed numerous changes at the Club, yet she has continued to adapt, maintaining her strong work ethic and delivering exceptional customer service. Even on her days off, she found ways to give back to the community — such as serving as a Justice of the Peace in Merrylands. Her commitment was formally recognised in 2001 when she received Guildford Rotary’s Pride in Workmanship Award.
Beyond her work, Mary’s care for the community shines through. She remembers the small details about patrons and their families, always making time for people and offering kindness both inside and outside the workplace. Whether staff or patrons, Mary makes everyone feel seen, valued and part of the Guildford family.
Despite facing her own health challenges, Mary remains a strong, positive role model — an inspiration for all staff to look up to.
In celebration and recognition of Mary’s 50th work anniversary at Guildford Leagues Club, the Club celebrated the milestone by hosting a special lunch to mark such an outstanding achievement.
Invited guests included current and former Club presidents, CEOs, staff members and Club patrons, all coming together to celebrate half a century and honour a truly special member of the Guildford Leagues family.
