The Hon. Jo Haylen BA MP, State Member for Summer Hill, opens the celebration of CAPS’ 50 years of service in the community.
Represented by John Munce, Dooleys President and Jason White, Community Relations and Grant Coordinator, Dooleys were guests of honor at the 50-year anniversary celebrations of the Child Abuse Prevention Service (CAPS). The Club was recognised as major supporters of CAPS alongside corporate partners in banking, telecommunications, legal and finance, for their commitment to addressing the health and wellbeing of vulnerable and at-risk children.
On 9 November, federal, state and local governments and private sector organisations gathered to acknowledge the Child Abuse Prevention Service (CAPS) for a half a century of dedicated service to the prevention of all forms of child abuse and maltreatment.
In her opening address, the Hon. Jo Haylen BA MP, State Member for Summer Hill, recognised the monumental milestone of CAPS’ 50 years of service in the community.
“Communities all across the state of New South Wales benefit greatly from the work that you do,” Ms Halen said.
On behalf of her electorate and the communities across all of NSW, Ms Halen went on to thank the dedicated supporters of CAPS present on the night, acknowledging that with their ongoing support, CAPS can continue to deliver programs that “… provide enormous direct benefits to the community and health and wellbeing of families and children across the inner west and the state”.
CAPS’ many programs were lauded on the night, particularly the DOOLEYS-funded Safe Arrivals Program which the Hon. Jodie Harrison, the NSW Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, praised, stating that “as an early intervention program, Safe Arrivals is so important for refugee and migrant women and girls”.
In a video address, the Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon. Linda Burney MP, also praised CAPS as an inspiration to all.
“The 50 years of service to the Sydney Inner West and surrounding community is an astounding commitment,” Ms Burney said.
Also speaking at the event, the Children’s Guardian, Steve Kinmond OAM, noted that CAPS and major supporters like Dooleys share the same concerns of his office — namely, the safety and wellbeing of children in NSW. Mr Kinmond reinforced the role of financial supporters like Dooleys working as a community to support CAPS in assisting organisations across NSW to implement the Child Safe Standards recommended by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
