Embracing Change for Long-Term Sustainability
If a section of a club’s operation isn’t generating enough revenue, should it continue as a loss leader for the benefit of a small section of the community or be developed into something different to ensure the club’s long-term viability?
That was the situation facing Campbelltown Catholic Club, with its creche, Kidz Korner, seeing visitations in decline.
Thinking strategically about the Club’s future, the Board challenged management to assess the site and determine its best use for the long-term benefit of its members.
The end result is Hakea Wellness, bringing together curated, proven wellness experiences including Reformer Pilates, cold plunge therapy, traditional and infrared saunas, massage chairs, wellness workshops and more.
Described as “wellness made simple, sustainable and enjoyable”, it’s designed to help build strength, restore balance and embrace lifelong wellbeing.
“Consistent with the strategic direction of the Club, the Board continues to challenge the leadership team to identify new and diverse income streams,” says Campbelltown Catholic Club CEO Michael Lavorato.
“Our Aquafit Fitness and Leisure General Manager Kristen Green stepped up to the plate with a plan to repurpose a section of the facility to build a new business focussed on wellness.
“Her idea and vision was supported and she then managed the project to completion. Hakea Wellness is a beautiful facility and is already making a positive impact to the business and the community.”
Hakea is named after the native Australian plant known for resilience, adaptability and natural beauty, symbolising the belief that with the right conditions, everyone can grow, bloom and thrive.
It’s a natural step in Aquafit’s 20-year legacy, which already included gym and fitness facilities, heated indoor pools and a spa.
“Hakea has been two years in the making. From the very beginning I always envisioned it as a space to restore balance, build strength and create community,” says Kristen.
“Seeing it come to life is incredible. Every detail speaks to our belief that wellness should be shared, enjoyable and sustainable; something that becomes part of your life, not a break from it.”
Hakea welcomes a diverse community — from busy professionals and parents seeking calm and consistency, to those focused on mobility, recovery and long-term health.
Every element is designed to calm and uplift, from the natural light and warm tones to soft sounds and bushland scents, it’s premium but never exclusive.
