Rising From the Ashes
When a fire tore through the clubhouse at Orange’s Wentworth Golf Club in 2019, a devastated community was left with the very real prospect of being permanently left without one of their favourite golf courses.
Fast forward five years and The Wentworth Orange was officially launched on Monday, 8 July with a brand-new $25 million clubhouse.
An amalgamation with the Orange Ex-Services’ Club at the end of 2019 put in train a commitment to ensure the facilities were not only rebuilt, but state-of-the-art.
Despite the original cost estimate dramatically increasing due to construction challenges, significant modifications to the original design, the discovery of extra rock underneath the foundations and COVID-related setbacks; Orange Ex-Services’ never wavered in its vision and commitment.
The new venue aims to attract not only golfers but food enthusiasts, young families and other visitors looking to experience the vibrant offerings of the Orange region.
“From the beginning, we envisioned a venue that blends leisure, sport and community, offering something for everyone in Orange,” says Orange Ex-Services CEO Nathan Kelly.
“Our goal was to build a place where people can enjoy a round of golf, attend community events, dine with family and friends, and participate in a variety of recreational activities — all within a single, beautifully designed location.”
The Wentworth features an indoor kids’ playground, state-of-the-art golf simulators, a function space for events of all sizes, a sports lounge and spacious outdoor terrace offering north-facing panoramic views of the golf course.
The Club hopes the amenities will elevate Orange’s status as a regional destination for leisure and entertainment.
“The Club has undertaken to create a facility that gives people a reason to come, offering something for everyone,” says Nathan.
“We are very proud of the end result, it is a great thing for not only the people of West Orange, but we also aim to attract visitation from the entire golfing fraternity across the Central West.”
The new venue was officially launched last night with more than 100 guests in attendance, including Orange MP Phil Donato, Calare MP Andrew Gee and Orange Mayor Jason Hamling.
The official launch came three days after the new Club began trading for the first time, with community feedback overwhelmingly positive.
“There has been a lot of buzz and we have seen overwhelming interest not only from our membership but also the community of Orange as a whole in our first week,” says Nathan.
“We will look to make further improvements to the Club, course and surrounds moving forward and we are confident that the local community will continue to wholeheartedly support the venue.”
