Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club Steps Up in Time of Crisis
Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club (TBBC), widely recognised as the Heart of our Community, has opened its doors to over 200 evacuees affected by the devastating floods sweeping the Mid -North Coast of NSW.
Over the past two days, the Club has transformed its Show Room into a large-scale evacuation centre, offering emergency shelter, meals and comfort to displaced individuals and families — many of whom arrived with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Among the evacuees are not just people, but beloved pets including dogs, cats, birds, and even a large white cockatoo.
“Our staff have worked tirelessly to ensure everyone is fed, warm, and feels safe,” says Club Manager Thomas Heffernan.
“It’s in times like these that you truly see how close-knit our community is. Tuncurry is a small town with a big heart — and we’re proud to play our part.”
The generosity of the local community has once again shone through, with an overwhelming amount of donations including clothing, bedding, and toiletries. At this point, the Club has received more than enough supplies and has had to temporarily restrict further donations. Locals are encouraged to keep an eye on TBBC’s Facebook page for future needs as the situation evolves.
Accommodation venues in both Forster and Tuncurry — including motels and high-rise apartments— have also stepped in to assist, helping to ease the pressure on the Club’s facilities by offering shelter to many evacuees.
Unfortunately, the weather continues to worsen, with heavy rain currently falling and expected to ease by Friday. In anticipation of further emergency needs, TBBC is already preparing to welcome the next wave of evacuees.
TBBC will remain open as an evacuation centre for as long as required and continues to work closely with local authorities and service providers to ensure the safety and support of everyone impacted.
