Two Crescent Head Country Club Employees Celebrate 40 Years of Service
A recent Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) report suggested it's more likely that a 15-year-old today will experience a portfolio of around five careers, potentially having 17 different jobs.
However, this is certainly not the case at the Crescent Head Country Club where two employees just surpassed the feat of 40 years of service.
Club Secretary Manager Colan Ryan said 40 years of service at any job was a remarkable achievement let alone in the hospitality industry.
“This is a rare feat for not just one but two of our staff and we are really lucky to have had Club Supervisor John Bird, aged 66, and all-rounder Gai Harvey, aged 61, be with us all this time,” Colan said.
“The level of commitment and enthusiasm required is something only a select few could achieve. We would like to thank Gai and John for their years of service and dedication to the job.
“Sometimes the Club can get cut off in times of flood, with no way in or out. I do recall Gai walking through flood waters to come to work! Now that is dedication.”
Chairperson Pam Bryant said the Club was extremely lucky to have both John and Gai.
“They have shown stability to the other staff, it’s a huge credit. Hospitality is hard and it’s rare for people to work at just the one venue in their career,” Pam said.
“They are complete professionals and are always so happy to be at work, their friendly and caring attitude always brightens up everyone’s day who is around them, they are passionate and very lovely people.
“We presented them both with a gift and did an announcement to everyone at the Club, it was great to recognise their milestone.”
Former employee Tina Emery expressed her congratulations to Gai.
“You taught me how to pour a beer when I started at the Club back in 1990, my first job working in a bar — 33 years later and I’m still loving working in the hospitality industry! Thank you.”
Club colleague Elle Jay congratulated John.
“I don't know how you've done it for so long, great bloke to work with, enjoy!”
