Uniting for a Transformative Cause
When community organisations rally together, remarkable transformations happen.
ClubsNSW recently teamed up with Ren Fernando, founder of ReLove—a social enterprise dedicated to providing quality furniture to those in need—and the team at The Glen for Women, which supports women facing homelessness and crisis situations.
Together, and with the help of Cessnock Leagues Club — part of the Cessnock Hospitality group — they supported a resident to furnish her transitional home.
After moving out of The Glen for Women, Sarah (not her real name) found herself struggling in her new environment. She was sleeping on a mattress on the floor, unable to afford the furnishings needed to make her house a home. Upon learning about Sarah’s situation, all three organisations promptly sprang into action.
ReLove offered to donate furniture, but the transportation costs posed a challenge. In a display of community spirit, Cessnock Hospitality Group CEO Paul Cousins and Community Engagement Manager Krystal Sellars stepped in to assist with the brokerage costs, along with additional support from The Glen.
Thanks to this collaborative effort, Sarah was able to fully furnish her home, bringing her joy and a renewed sense of hope.
"Seeing the smile light up Sarah’s face yesterday was amazing," says Jemma Christian from The Glen for Women.
"She has been struggling these last few months, but because of the incredible work and remarkable generosity of all involved, she now has a home she can be proud of—a home she is excited to bring her son home to."
This heartwarming story showcases the profound impact that clubs and community groups can have when they come together to support those less fortunate.
By working in unity, they not only provide essential resources but also offer dignity and a greater chance for individuals like Sarah to succeed.
