Wagga RSL Club Welcomes First Female President
Wagga RSL Club’s board meeting last month made history by appointing Jane Barnes as the Club’s first female President — a significant and exciting step forward for the Club and its members.
Jane Barnes, a dedicated and dynamic board member since 2018, steps into her new role with a wealth of experience and an unwavering passion for service. Her appointment is a testament to her exceptional leadership qualities and her commitment to the Club’s vision.
Jane succeeds Peter Thomas, who has admirably served as Club President for the past eight years and has been a loyal Board member for an impressive 16 years. Known for his outstanding people skills and calm demeanour, Peter has set a high standard during his tenure. Awarded Life Membership in 2021, Peter decided it was time for fresh perspectives and new energy. A devoted golfer and proud grandfather, Peter looks forward to spending more time with his family and friends.
Jane's professional journey is equally impressive. She spent 17 years as a successful small business owner before transitioning to the public sector, where she currently serves in the NSW Public Service. Her extensive experience includes influential roles on the board of the Pro Patria Centre and chair positions with COMPACT Inc. and the Defence Reserves Support Council.
With qualifications in Business Management and Psychology, Jane brings a diverse skill set to her new role. An avid cook and enthusiastic amateur equestrian, Jane’s vibrant personality promises to invigorate the Club.
Ryan Smith has been appointed the new Vice President of Wagga RSL Club. Ryan is a Licensed Sales Agent, Auctioneer and Stock and Station agent and co-owner of PRD Real Estate Wagga.
The Board remains steadfast in its commitment to prioritising the needs of its members and the community whilst bringing people together. Excitement is in the air as the Club embarks on a new chapter, with eagerly anticipated renovations kicking off this week to enhance the Club’s facilities.
