Wyong Leagues Group Secures 20-Year Crown Land Lease for Soccer Club
In great news for the Budgewoi Soccer Club, its parent club Wyong Leagues Group has entered into a new 20-year lease on the site. As the Club and grounds sit on Crown Land, this new long-term agreement has required several years of negotiation between the State Government and the Group — these discussions leading to the formal execution of a new lease on June 24.
This is a tremendous result for both the licensed Club, its members and for the hundreds of soccer players that use the facilities. It means that the Group can now more effectively plan and invest in projects that will make a big difference to the Club.
This year the first major project will be a $300,000 upgrade to the drainage of the playing surfaces at their three soccer fields in the coming off-season. This is in addition to several improvements that were already underway in anticipation of the new agreement. The Group is installing a new digital scoreboard on the main field and upgrading the beer garden area with a large outdoor LED screen and additional heating.
The extensive improvements to pitch drainage will importantly guarantee improved availability in the future. This will be welcome news for those using the fields for games and training that unfortunately have seen the fields unplayable at times for periods over the years.
“As one of our first amalgamations, Budgewoi Soccer Club has always been a very important part of our group,” Wyong Leagues Group CEO Ben Coghlan said.
“It is therefore really pleasing that with the long-term future of the venue now settled, we can focus on a more expansive vision in the planning and development of the Club.”
“Budgewoi FC is an institution within the Central Coast sporting community and this investment by Wyong Leagues Group further demonstrates their clear commitment to a bright future for not only our Club’s players, officials and volunteers but also those from visiting teams and the football community on the Coast,” said Budgewoi FC’s First Grade Manager.
The drainage works are scheduled to start early November.
