Cardiff RSL Assists Locals Living With Disabilities
What started as a simple idea at Cardiff RSL to stage an event for locals with a disability has quickly blossomed into a beloved community event.
The Morning Melodies program runs every Thursday, with hundreds of people, along with their carers, enjoying morning coffee and delicious meals before taking their place on the dance floor.
From 10.30am to 12.30pm, the event takes over the Club’s main lounge, often spilling over into the adjacent lounge area, such has been the popularity.
“We have recognised the need for a welcoming space for individuals with disabilities and their support workers to engage in community access activities,” says Cardiff RSL Club CEO Garry Malone.
“We created an environment where everyone feels valued and included. It is truly an amazing sight to see, with over one hundred participants and their carers enjoying themselves together, singing along, dancing, tapping or bopping to the beat.”
Long time local entertainer Pete Sneddon sets the stage with crowd-favourite sing-along songs such as Sweet Caroline, Simply the Best, Blue Suede Shoes and more.
Recently, interactive elements such as maracas and tambourines have also been introduced. This sees participants actively engaging with the music, creating a full sensory experience that transcends traditional entertainment boundaries.
“Morning Melodies is not just a program; it is a testament to our unwavering dedication to community, inclusivity and providing a platform for shared joy,” says Garry.
“It’s just a great example of the connection with the local community and a demonstration of inclusivity that clubs should strive for.
“It supports the Club’s maxim of being the ‘pride of the community’ and enhances our belief of primarily being here for our members.”
