Club Maitland City Unveils Major Development Plans
Club Maitland City is planning a major overhaul after lodging development applications to construct a multi-storey car park at its main Rutherford premises and transform an ageing motel into a discount service station.
The Club has unveiled plans to build a new three-tier car park, complete with a significant rooftop solar array, at its 14 Arthur Street address to support the popular venue’s continued growth in the heart of the Hunter region.
Club City Maitland CEO Ian Martin said the project must take place before or alongside any further development on the property due to existing parking constraints, with “safety, security and accessibility” for members paramount.
The proposed 300kW solar array would complement an existing 226kW installation, underlining its commitment to sustainability.

Meanwhile, Mr Martin noted Maitland City Motel – located at 258-264 New England Highway, Rutherford – had “reached the end of its practical life”, having been constructed circa 1950.
He heralded a “rare opportunity to renew one of Rutherford’s older commercial sites” via the construction of a service station and an accompanying healthier takeaway food and beverage outlet not currently available in the region.
“Club Maitland City acknowledges that developments of this nature may not be supported by everyone in the community,” Mr Martin added.
However, the Club says the proposed redevelopment has been shaped with wider community outcomes in mind and will help support ongoing investment in sport and community initiatives across Maitland.
“This is particularly important in a growing region experiencing sustained demand for services and amenities,” said Mr Martin.
The applications also form part of a broader pipeline of club-led developments aimed at continuing the organisation’s longstanding ‘In Maitland For Maitland’ commitment.
While excited by the progress already made in bringing the projects forward, Mr Martin said Club Maitland City remains mindful of “the importance of community confidence and local identity”.
The Club is focused on “delivering outcomes that support Maitland’s long-term future”.
