ClubsNSW has made it even easier for people to manage their gambling, upgrading the existing Multi-Venue Self-Exclusion system to allow patrons to exclude themselves from gaming venues right across the state from the comfort of their own home.
Known as Self-Facilitated Multi-Venue Self-Exclusion (MVSE), the new tool allows patrons to fill out an online form and select the venues they wish to exclude themselves from. The process can be completed from their mobile device or computer while at home, on the road, or wherever they feel most comfortable.
ClubsNSW CEO Rebecca Riant said Self-Facilitated MVSE removes some of the barriers for people wanting to improve their relationship with gambling, simplifying the system and making it more accessible than ever before.
“The addition of Self-Facilitated MVSE eliminates the need to set foot inside a venue to request a self-exclusion,” said Ms Riant.
“Having to speak to staff at your local club about your gambling can be confronting, especially for those living in a small town, and it can be a deterrent to self-excluding.
“Our recent investment in this new online MVSE portal allows a person to hop online, fill out a form in just a few minutes and request an exclusion from up to 35 venues across the state. It’s a quick, simple and effective harm minimisation measure that we are really proud to have launched.”
ClubsNSW has operated the MVSE register for clubs and pubs across NSW since 2012.
“For more than a decade, MVSE and face-to-face counselling have worked hand-in-hand to assist patrons in improving their relationship with gambling and we are proud to be leading the industry in this space,” said Ms Riant.
“As the peak industry body, ClubsNSW is committed to harm minimisation. The launch of Self-Facilitated MVSE comes just six months after the launch of our Club Gaming Code of Practice, which outlines the practices, rules, responsibilities and standards for the responsible conduct of gambling and Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing for the state’s club industry.”

Self-Facilitated Multi-Venue Self-Exclusion (MVSE) FAQs
Q – What happens if a person wishes to cancel their self-exclusion?
A – As is the case with existing self-exclusions, all self-facilitated self-exclusions must be held for six months before a revocation can be sought. All revocation applications are assessed by a responsible gambling counsellor who will consider the person’s gambling history and any attempted breaches.
Q – What happens if a person attempts to breach their self-exclusion?
A – If a venue staff member identifies a person in breach of their self-exclusion, they or their supervisor will discretely approach the person and assess whether that person is who they believe them to be. If staff are satisfied that the person they’ve approached is in breach of their self-exclusion, the person will be asked to leave and escorted from the premises if necessary.
Q – How are Self-Facilitated Multi-Venue Self-Exclusions verified? What if someone tries to submit a false application as a prank?
A – All Self-Facilitated MVSE applications require a person to upload the following documents for identification purposes:
- A clear photo of them holding a copy of their Australian state or territory issued Driver Licence, photo card or passport; and
- A scanned copy of their Australian state or territory issued Driver Licence, photo card or passport; and
- A recent high-resolution headshot photo of their face.
