Moorebank Sports Pledges $250K to Support DV Survivors
Moorebank Sports Club has pledged $250,000 to support victim-survivors of domestic and family violence across a five-year partnership with the new Liverpool Women’s Shelter.
The community-minded southwest Sydney Club was recently unveiled as the Shelter’s foundation partner, backing its mission to create safe havens where women and children can heal and rebuild their lives.
The announcement comes weeks after Moorebank Sports played a leading role in the club industry’s state-wide Purple Friday campaign against domestic violence, with Sporties running additional initiatives throughout May.
Moorebank Sports CEO Jeff Gibbs says partnering with Liverpool Women’s Shelter represents an opportunity to make a tangible difference for some of the community’s most vulnerable members.
“Domestic and family violence does not discriminate,” Mr Gibbs said.
“It affects our neighbours, our families, our workplaces and our wider community. Behind every statistic is a person, a child, a family trying to find safety, dignity and a chance to begin again.
“As a community Club, we could not stand on the sidelines. We wanted to make a meaningful, long-term commitment that would create real impact, and help ensure women and children in our local area know they are not alone.”
Moorebank Sports Vice-Chairman Craig McNally added: “Sporties has always been there for the community, and this is just another example of our commitment to ensuring safety and security throughout the community.”
The recently established Liverpool Women’s Shelter aims to address the urgent need for specialised local services amid concerning domestic violence rates.
Sporties’ significant investment will provide secure accommodation and integral support, enabling victim-survivors to step into a brighter future with confidence and strength.
“We are deeply thankful to Sporties for standing alongside us and demonstrating such a strong commitment to our mission,” Liverpool Women’s Shelter Chairperson Cheryl Macnaught said.
“Together, we are helping create a future where women and children are safe, supported and empowered to thrive.”
Striving to be the ‘cornerstone of the community’, the partnership is the latest example of Moorebank Sports’ social impact, having long supported locals through grassroots sport, charitable initiatives and wellbeing programs.
