A new report released by Jobs and Skills Australia on 29 May 2026 examines the employer-sponsored temporary Skills in Demand (SID) program across its three streams.
Some of the key highlights for clubs include:
- The introduction of the SID visa, in combination with the indexed salary thresholds, has had a strong positive impact on nominated salaries for primary SID visa applicants compared to applicants under the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) visa.
- The SID and TSS visa programs are labour market driven, as reflected in the percentage growth in visa grants for most industries in recent years. This includes accommodation and food services — the employing industry for chefs and cooks, which consistently appear among the top occupations for primary SID/TSS visa grants.
- The top 15 occupations for primary temporary skilled visa grants in 2023/24 and 2024/25 included chefs, which increased by more than 180 percent over this period.
Clubs Australia has actively participated in inquiries into skilled migration as this is an important stream of labour, particularly for chefs, cooks and licensed club managers. This includes most recently appearing before a parliamentary inquiry into the value of skilled migration. Further information on this inquiry can be found here.
