Wenty Leagues Team Hikes Mt Kosciuszko to Raise Funds for the Brain Foundation
The marketing team at Wenty Leagues is gearing up for a mountain of a challenge as they prepare to tackle the 18-kilometre trek up Mt Kosciuszko on Saturday, 2 March.
The aptly named 'Let's Kosciusz-Go!' initiative is not just about conquering a mountain — it's about rallying behind their colleague, Rebecca Gauci, and raising vital funds for the Brain Foundation.
Rebecca Gauci is the Club’s Community Engagement Coordinator and she has faced significant challenges over the past few years, beginning with her diagnosis of a benign brain tumour shortly after the birth of her second daughter in 2020.
Her journey has involved a gruelling 22.5-hour surgery to remove the tumour, followed by intense rehabilitation to regain basic functions including walking, talking and eating. Her latest scan at the end of 2023 indicated stability, but the future remains uncertain and her neurosurgeon may recommend further surgery or radiation if the tumour continues to grow.
Despite facing physical and mental obstacles, Rebecca's resilience shines through and she is an inspiration to her team.
"I am incredibly thankful for the unwavering support of my team,” Rebecca said.
“Their encouragement and dedication mean the world to me. I am proud to be part of an organisation that not only supports its employees but also prioritises giving back to the community."
Working with the Brain Foundation has also been a source of positivity for Rebecca.
“It is wonderful that through our initiative we will also be raising awareness and essential funds for brain research and support.”
Tackling the climb along with Rebecca will be the Club’s Chief Operations Officer Stuart Jamieson, Marketing Manager Rosanna Melluso, Marketing Coordinator Luke Fuller and Graphic Designer Rachel Melendez.
Together, the Wenty Leagues team is aiming to raise $10,000 for the Brain Foundation, which is the largest independent, non-government funder of neurological and neuroscientific research in Australia.
Stuart Jamieson, COO of Wenty Leagues Club, highlighted the club industry's dedication to community support and collaboration with organisations like the Brain Foundation.
"Our involvement highlights the club industry's profound impact on community welfare,” said Stuart.
“Partnering with the Brain Foundation not only allows us to support Rebecca, but also showcases the Club's commitment to meaningful causes."
This initiative marks the beginning of a series of charitable endeavours for Wenty Leagues under their community brand, Heart of Wenty.
