I could not be more excited about the opportunity to represent the interests of clubs in NSW.
I’m grateful to the Board of ClubsNSW and the outstanding leadership they have shown over the course of the last six months (in particular), and I want to extend my warmest thanks to the wonderful Sallianne Faulkner who has done a stellar job of navigating the Association through what has been a challenging period.
I’d also like to acknowledge the commitment, loyalty and unwavering efforts of the ClubsNSW Executive Management team, and indeed, all the staff of our small yet vibrant organisation. I’ve been truly impressed by the wonderful people we have — the capability, talent and commitment to serving clubs and the broader community was immediately evident from my very first week in the job.
I acknowledge that I have a task ahead of me — a unique opportunity to unify clubs in NSW and ensure that we, as the peak industry body, are absolutely focused on doing our very best to represent the interests of clubs and their communities and deliver positive outcomes that we can be proud of, and rightfully celebrate together.
As Sallianne so eloquently wrote in her Sallianne Signing Off piece, now is the time for unification — for our industry to stand strong and tall together — to ensure that we always act with integrity and have the best interests of clubs and the communities that they so dutifully serve at the heart of everything we do.
“… my first few months will be focused on listening and learning, ensuring that ClubsNSW is truly hearing your feedback …”
To that end, my first few months will be focused on listening and learning, ensuring that ClubsNSW is truly hearing your feedback and taking on board the results of the most recent industry survey which gives us clear feedback on what our members value from its industry body, what they would like to see more (and less!) of, and how we can best serve you. I look forward to providing you all an update on our plans in this space in due course.
I’m committed to continuing the regular communications in the Friday Round-Up given the great feedback we have received in support of more regular updates (I’ll do my best to meet the standard that Sallianne has set!) to ensure you know what we are doing to support members’ interests. And, of course, I’m available to you to discuss anything you’d like to share (good and bad). Feedback is a gift, so I invite you to email me any time at [email protected] and I look forward to meeting you all soon.
Last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to Broken Hill Musicians Club General Manager Michael Boland for making my first few days as ClubsNSW CEO so enjoyable. On my first day in the job, I flew out to Broken Hill for the Riverina & South West ClubsNSW Conference, hosted at the Musos Club.
Michael not only delivers outstanding results for the community of Broken Hill, but he has such a fun, cheeky sense of humour and a spring in his step too boot! What his club did to save the local cinema from closing its doors is a masterclass in commerce, industry and social support — he is a true champion of our industry and made me feel very welcome — and proud.
