Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton have held their first leaders’ debate of the election campaign, with a registered club playing host.
In front of 100 undecided voters, the leaders faced off on a range of issues at Wenty Leagues.
The Club has been in top secret planning discussions for weeks, with security unsurprisingly a major area of focus.
The Sky News Australia and Daily Telegraph People’s Forum was broadcast live across the country last night on Foxtel and streamed online through the Sky News website.
Healthcare costs, migration, housing, inflation and energy were among the topics debated by the leaders, with the audience handing Mr Albanese the win, 44 per cent to 35 per cent.
In the post-debate wash up today, political pundits have been largely in consensus that the debate ended in a draw, with neither leader landing a knockout blow.
It’s the second time in as many days that the leaders have met face-to-face in a registered club, with Workers Blacktown playing host on Friday to a Daily Telegraph Future Western Sydney event.
Mr Albanese and Mr Dutton are back on the campaign trail today, with the Federal Election to be held on Saturday, 3 May.
