Come to Dine, Stay to Socialise at Mollymook Golf Club
Mollymook Golf Club, in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region, has just completed an eight-month renovation of its bistro, lounge area and gaming room, adding to the already popular offering of its beachside café.
The $8 million project consisted of a freshen up of the main clubhouse including the lounge area, bistro and bottleshop, plus a major reconstruction of an indoor/outdoor gaming room.
Club CEO John Holt said the Club’s new look has been a welcome change after 15 years between renovations.
“Unfortunately, I’m colour blind and I've got no taste, so we relied on experts to guide us through the process,” John joked.
“We're happy with the builders, happy with the project managers and we're certainly happy with the finished product.”
The bright and airy finished product was designed to bring the colours of the ocean and surrounding views inside, while also reorienting the layout from facing the bar to facing the spectacular view of Mollymook Beach.
“The old Club had a lot of big spaces for the for the old-style lounge promos – it was like an airport,” John said.
“What we wanted was spaces created, we wanted bookable areas within the lounge and bistro area so we could have the private spaces on offer
“We've moved right away from the big barn feel to get to multiple areas of intimacy and they all take advantage of the view — plus it's a lot more comfortable.”
Administration also moved from inside the main building to an office in the carpark to make room for the new, large, fully functional bottleshop that was built topped off with walk-in cool rooms.
The renovation, in addition to the already popular Salt & Spencer beachside café, cements its position as a pillar of the community, both for locals and tourists.
“We have designed our building around the dining experience and the socialising experience,” John said.
“We've set ourselves up for financial viability over next 10 years and we've given ourselves a new lease on life in terms of our offering.”
