Grant Opportunity: Enhancing Club Accessibility for People with Disability
When considering renovations, many clubs upgrade their facilities to create a more accommodating environment for those living with disability.
Clubs now have the chance to collaborate with councils for the construction or enhancement of Changing Place facilities. These spaces, larger than standard accessible toilets and equipped with extra features and more room, cater to the needs of people with disability and their carers.
The Changing Places toilet facility accommodates individuals with high support needs, offering an adult-sized change table, a privacy screen, a ceiling track hoist system, a peninsula toilet, and other components. These facilities complement other accessible bathroom facilities already in place in many venues.
The Commonwealth will provide:
- 50 per cent of the funding towards build costs for Changing Places facilities in LGAs without an existing facility
- 40 per cent of the funding towards build costs for all subsequent facilities in any LGA with at least one Changing Places.
Clubs with a significant proportion of people with disabilities residing in their local area or those regularly visited by individuals with disabilities should particularly consider this opportunity.
For any clubs interested in this opportunity, please reach out to your local council, which can then initiate discussions with the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ).
DCJ needs to convey any interest from parties in NSW to the Australian Government by 24 March 2024, so we advise engaging with local councils as soon as possible.
Funding will be allocated to states and territories, who will then distribute it to the respective parties if they are successful.
Any interested clubs should review the Changing Places Commonwealth Funding Offer Fact Sheet for additional details.
If you collaborate with the council on the Changing Places funding initiative, please reach out to [email protected]. We’d love to hear about your project.
