In exciting news, the NSW night-time economy saw:
- Increased activity in the September quarter.
- Night-time, in-person spending rose from the last quarter to $3.64 billion dollars, which is a 1.7 per cent increase compared to the previous quarter.
- People in NSW made 476 million night-time people movement activity trips in the quarter, which is a 2.6 per cent increase from the previous quarter and 1 per cent increase year-on-year.
- The continued growth of suburban nightlight hubs, which is creating new opportunities for growth in these areas.
On another positive note, over the past two years, regional centres like Kiama and Queanbeyan are emerging as significant contributors to the night-time economy, leveraging proximity to key hubs like Canberra, Port Kembla and the Wollongong CBD.
However, it is evident that the cost-of-living and broader macroeconomic conditions are taking a toll on consumer expenditure. Compared to the 2023 September quarter, night-time, in-person spending decreased by 5.4 per cent or 7.9 per cent in real terms.
ClubsNSW is continuing to work closely with the Office of the 24-hour Economy Commissioner on the implementation of the 24-Hour Economy Strategy and will keep member clubs informed on the progression of this work.
