NSW Skills Plan 2024/2028 Released
The NSW Government has announced its NSW Skills Plan (the Plan) for 2024-2028.
The Plan is a strategic document which is the NSW Government’s response to the NSW VET Review and can be found here.
As part of the Plan, the Government has outlined three key areas of reform to address skills shortages in the state, being:
- Funding for priority skills and outcomes through a shift to outcomes-driven funding that focuses on students, government skills priorities and industry needs.
- A strong and stable TAFE NSW through rebuilding the system.
- Planning for local skills, including establishing a new regional skills planning model.
The Plan also outlines five strategic priorities aimed at addressing critical skills needs, improving student outcomes, industry engagement, the VET workforce and system agility. These priorities are:
- Target skilling responses to government priorities.
- Improve equitable outcomes, pathways and access for students.
- Strengthen industry and employer partnerships and skills system governance.
- Build and support the NSW VET teaching workforce.
- Drive system responsiveness and innovation.
Given the importance of skills and VET to the club industry, we continue to advocate and engage with the government on skills and VET through meetings with ministers and participating in consultation opportunities. Our submission to the review of the NSW VET system can be found here.
