Two-Way Gaming Protocol for NSW
Written by Amy Broomfield, ClubsNSW Senior Gambling & Policy Advisor

As clubs would be aware, NSW currently has in place a one-way communication protocol (X-Series) for Electronic Gaming Machines (EGMs). To address certain limitations associated with a one-way protocol, and to align NSW with other jurisdictions, Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW) has commenced early work to transition to a two-way communications protocol in NSW.
As part of this process, L&GNSW will be completing baseline work to the NSW Centralised Monitoring System (CMS) to allow it to interact with the adoption of a two-way communication protocol.
ClubsNSW sought clarification and further detail from L&GNSW — they have now confirmed:
- The QCOM protocol will be used;
- L&GNSW is aware of the significant impact of the implementation of a two-way protocol — at this stage, they are working with MAX to complete the initial baseline technology development only. There will be further extensive consultation with industry prior to the two-way protocol being rolled out more broadly; and
- Cashless trial — there will be no impact on the functionality of the CMS while this initial baseline technology development is being completed.
